This rare collection in water colour, pastels and ink European sketches spanning across 500 years, Italian Renaissance to the late nineteenth-century France.  is the works of some of the well known greats such as Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Rembrandt, Claude Lorrain, Canaletto and, from the nineteenth century, Ingres, Degas, Manet, Renoir, Cézanne and Gauguin., the collection consists of 120 examples This collection of sketches drawn by the Old Masters, greats such as Edounard Manet is a must see the attention to detail in the sketches is magnificent. Edounard Manet (1832-1883) Madame Loubens Pastel on canvas( my favourite) is in my opinion exquisite however best to be viewed in real time than photograph as the photograph takes it to a 2D feel , where upon viewing real-time the figure seems to sit off the canvas, Amazing! As seen above a fabulous watercolour of a Wild Boar Piglet by Hans Hoffmann. Major drawings by Watteau and Gauguin are preparatory for paintings in the Gallery’s permanent collection as luck would have it. The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where it was shown earlier this year. The National Gallery in Edinburgh will be the only European venue.
